Beans

Beans are generally classified as neither a fruit nor a vegetable but as a type of food called legume although some beans, especially when still in their pods like snap peas are thought of and used like vegetables.

Beans are very healthy to eat, being full of both fibre and protein, as well as lots of flavour!

Beans are a great substitute for those who do not eat meat like vegetarians. In some countries, people are too poor to afford meat, so they rely on beans to provide them with the protein and other important nutrients.

Other benefits of beans are low in fat, cholesterol free, high in folate, potassium, iron and magnesium.

Note that in general canned beans tend to raise blood sugar more than beans which you soak and cook yourself.
